COPPER'S STORY
What a pretty boy. You would hardly know it but he has had a rough life. He contracted "joint ill " right after birth. This infection is life threatening and severely debilitating at worst although some foals have recovered without much residual effect. Copper has been on and off antibiotics most of his first 3 months of life- mostly ON. We had serious concerns about how he visualized us humans...bringing IV meds, shots, pills almost every visit. It became apparent that we would have to lavish him with LOVE at every other chance we had so he would retain trust of us. Well, it worked (the applesauce and molasses with the medicine probably was the trick!) He still loves us and allows us into his space for a good rub!
COPPER says, "Here I am, come see me!"
Here is Copper at one year old with his half sister, Sparkles. His left front leg is shorter than the other one but he can still walk and even runs and kicks up his heels once in a while! It just is amazing how God takes care of him. He had his left hoof grow straight down to "add on" to the length of his leg so he could still get around. Much like the lift that would be fitted to the sole of a person's shoe who had a similiar problem. :)
